As a Mainer, Melissa Hurley knows the value of a good story. As a Maine photographer, Melissa knows what it’s like to have a photo to help the story along (or prove that it’s true!). She enjoys being a small part of the story an image tells, and she is thrilled to have recorded generational history for Maine people with her photos.
After receiving her first camera at the age of 12, working in a studio along side a professional photographer throughout high school, and practicing photography through college, in 2003, Melissa started Memories by Melissa Photography in Wilton, Maine, and she has been capturing memories and telling stories with her photography in the Central and Western Maine area ever since. Her professional experience extends over the last 18 years in wedding photography, family portraits, high school senior photos, undergraduate school photography contracts, and commercial photography. As a member of the Professional Photographers of America and the Maine Professional Photographers Association, Melissa believes in continuing education and frequently attends workshops and seminars to stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies-blending them with classic styles and a personal touch.
Melissa lives with her husband, Brian and their children, Kiara and Donovan, and honors “Princess” Savannah, who lost her 3 year battle with cancer in 2008 at the age of 7. Her daughter’s illness inspired her to become a volunteer photographer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Having lost her child, she knows how important pictures are for grieving and healing.
An award-winning photographer, Melissa is passionate about her work and is excited that her passion is also her profession. She understands that there is something about a photo, when it’s just right, that goes beyond what words can say. She welcomes the opportunity to capture your story through photographs to create your lasting memories.
